Villa Lascaris hosts Memoria e Accoglienza. Storie di mondi in cammino (Memory and Welcome. Stories of worlds on the move), an exhibition and experiential journey that rethinks the most authentic meaning of welcome.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey between roots and new belongings: from the departures of the early 1900s to the internal migrations within Italy during the industrial boom, to the contemporary stories of those who arrive in our country today. A choral narrative of images, voices, artistic installations and testimonies, set up in the historic spaces of the villa and its 19th-century park.
The exhibition opens in the private chapel of Marquis Lascaris, with photographs and stories of Piedmontese valley dwellers leaving for the New World. It continues in the Sala Colonne with the voices and images of Turin in the 1960s and 1970s, marked by the arrival of thousands of workers from southern Italy. Through the park, you reach installations created by the social project Materiali di scARTO, ending in the Citroniera, where you will find the stories of new migrants and videos made by local school students.
Three Sundays will be dedicated to storytelling: Stories of Women (5 October), Stories of Young People (19 October) and Stories of Experiences and Tales (26 October). On Wednesday 15, a public dialogue entitled “Strangers to whom and until when?” will address the issue of citizenship with lawyers, activists and direct witnesses.
The initiative is part of the Festival dell'Accoglienza (Festival of Welcome).
