The 16th edition of the Buriasco Living Nativity Scene, in the Pinerolo plain, is an exceptionally evocative depiction of the Nativity, involving over 200 residents of Buriasco as actors and extras.
The narrative unfolds through scenes acted out and sung live, which come to life on two stages set up in the municipal park. The script draws on the Gospel accounts, reinterpreted and dramatised, whilst always keeping a close eye on the realities of our times.
The performance also features symbols to be observed carefully: these are not mere stage props but elements with profound meaning that convey clear humanitarian messages. Next to the stages, a veritable village from days gone by comes to life, with numerous local participants busy reviving traditional trades. Visitors can stroll amongst the market stalls and view the animal pens. The convivial atmosphere is enhanced by the village inn, where visitors can enjoy hot herbal teas, mulled wine and traditional Piedmontese waffles.
Complementing the event is the photographic exhibition *It Takes a Village to Make a Nativity Scene*, which traces the history and evolution of previous editions.
