SportRoccia returns to Bardonecchia: three days of climbing, outdoor culture and history, in the very places where sport climbing was born.
In 1985, at the Parete dei Militi in Valle Stretta, a visionary idea by Emanuele Cassarà and Andrea Mellano gave rise to SportRoccia.
It was not just a competition: it was the beginning of a new way of experiencing climbing. Before that, it was about adventure, exploration and a personal challenge against the rock face; then, in 1985, thanks to the dream of two visionaries, climbing entered a new dimension, becoming a contest, a spectacle and a discipline.
From that rock face in Valle Stretta, sport climbing was born, destined to reach the Olympic Games less than forty years later.

SportRoccia Kids: first steps into the world of climbing
SportRoccia isn’t just an event for athletes and enthusiasts: it’s also an opportunity designed to introduce children to the world of climbing in a safe, fun and engaging way.
Over the weekend, children and young people can experience the thrill of climbing under the supervision of certified Alpine Guides, choosing from a range of activities: the Bardo Boulder Contest on Saturday, with boulders specially designed for them and the chance to try indoor climbing at Il Cubo, or Sunday’s session at the Parete dei Militi, where they can get their hands on real rock, right where the history of SportRoccia began.
Families can enrol their children for just one day or for both, creating a well-rounded experience combining play, sport, nature and discovery.
A way for young children to experience climbing not just as a sporting activity, but as an adventure, a source of confidence, physical activity and a connection with the mountains.
