The New Orchestra exhibition stems from the awareness that mountains have historically fostered encounters, sharing and socialising, nurturing feelings of belonging and solidarity that urban-industrial societies have lost.
One third of Italy is considered mountainous territory. Here, a phenomenon of “remaining”, “returning” and “new inhabitants” – which deserves to be supported by appropriate public policies – is underway. Young and old alike, driven by the need to re-establish socio-economic paradigms and a new ecological awareness, support the need for a new polycentric-solidarity-based urban-rural community model.
Born out of six artistic residencies, carried out in dialogue with six communities living in the highlands of the Alps and Apennines – in Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Emilia Romagna – the exhibition opens up a series of reflections in this regard.
