Tipico maschio italiano is a play that begins at the end of a love story and ends where it must end.
How can a man today speak credibly about love, sex, consent, rejection, jealousy, manipulation and violence, but also about authenticity, emotions and freedom?
The script calls on men to try to cast off the masks they feel compelled to wear, to try to recognise problematic behaviours, and to seek alternatives.
The play, which emerged as a wake-up call following the femicide of Giulia Cecchettin, unfolds as a nationwide reflection, involving men’s self-awareness groups, experts and the audience in an exploration of the dynamics of masculinity in Italy.
Personal stories, testimonies and perspectives intertwine, beginning with the personal story of a man ending a romantic relationship and leading to questions that concern us all.
The show aims to tackle these sensitive issues with a light touch and a sense of humour, without shying away from depth. With an intimate and unguarded approach, the show seeks to confront us with a difficult but necessary truth: the time has come for change, especially for us men who didn’t realise we needed to change.
