A new appointment with the conferences organised with the association ACME-Friends and Collaborators of the Egyptian Museum, with a lecture by Luigi Prada of Uppsala University.
Dreams are a universal phenomenon that permeates human life, and that of the ancient Egyptians was no exception.
From the Old Kingdom up to the Coptic period, evidence of the dream dimension and the life of the subconscious is recorded in texts of all kinds, from monumental stelae containing royal decrees to humble documents of daily life crudely traced on fragments of pottery.
Starting in the New Kingdom, the Egyptians even began composing books of oniromancy (i.e. dream interpretation), intended to decipher enigmatic messages and premonitions believed to be contained in dreams themselves.
This lecture presents the results of extensive research into the world of dreams in ancient Egypt, in particular introducing the audience to a group of papyri containing still unpublished books of oniromancy, revealing unknown aspects of the ancient Egyptian psyche.
