Urgency Toolkit is the result of Alessandra Pandolfi's two-month residency at Circolo del Design, part of Earthrise 25 - Design for a Living Planet: based on the thesis that democracy is, ultimately, a form of design, Urgency Toolkit proposes a device that allows communities to build new forms of collective norms together, starting from their needs and experiences.
The project explores the possibility of reversing the top-down direction typical of laws and decrees, proposing a participatory process in which communities become protagonists in the development of “community decrees” based on real urgencies that have emerged from the bottom up.
Urgency Toolkit is the latest of eight projects featured in the exhibition Where to, from here?, an investigation into the deep (and often invisible) link between design and democracy: an opportunity to question the role that design can play in transforming our systems of governance, to make them more inclusive, accessible and shared.
