The Italian Historic Houses Association is launching the fifth edition of the national event ‘Carte in dimora. Archives and Libraries: stories between the past and the future’, which will run alongside the ‘Domenica di carta’ initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, which for several years has been organising the opening of public libraries and State Archives – scheduled this year for Sunday 4 October.
Over 110 private historical archives and libraries situated in castles, fortresses and villas will be open to the public throughout Italy, offering a journey through the history of our country via places rich in precious traces of our past. Visitors will be able to admire up close rare and valuable examples of books, papers, correspondence, manuscripts and collections extending beyond books.
"Carte in Dimora" forms part of the activities that ADSI promotes throughout the year to raise awareness amongst the general public and institutions of the role that historic residences play in the country’s socio-economic and cultural fabric.
