The Borna Maggiore di Pugnetto, where the visits take place, holds the record for being the longest cave in the limestone in Italy; it is also recognised at European level as a SCI (Site of Community Interest) and SAC (Special Area of Conservation) thanks to the protected species of bats that dwell there during the winter season.
