Parco della Confluenza di Piazza Sofia

Urban Park
Accessibility
The undergrowth, partly flooded, is home to species that can also be found in the Turin hills such as anemones, buttercups, liliaceae of various types and mosses that form dense patches of vegetation and shrubs; also hygrophilous species can be found (which love water) around puddles and swamps, such as cattail. There are riparian reeds and marshy environments along the entire course of the Stura up to the bridge of Corso Giulio Cesare together with small oxbow lakes delimited by islets.
An example can be seen close to Piazza Sofia. In the reeds, even if only a few meters wide, many species of birds, amphibians and reptiles live. The Parco della Confluenza includes natural environments such as reeds, the stretch of water of the river, its banks, meadows, cultivated fields, vegetable gardens of the Stura (the many shrubs favour the presence of birds), the scree of the Stura. Among the animals that live in these particular environments birds are certainly the most numerous. They are generally diurnal, with many bright colours; for this reason observation is easy and exciting. The number of bird species that can be seen increases every year, some of these are very rare.
For example, in our city black kites nests, and there is a colony of gray herons (in Europe the only other urban spot where it is possible to find these birds is the public park in Amsterdam). Also, a rare osprey was spotted while flying over the waters of the Po during the spring migration.
