The great Alpine Guides of Bardonecchia, the story told with photographs, equipment and materials.
Bardonecchia has hosted personalities who have made the history of mountaineering and the mountain guide profession.
Walter Bonatti was called by the municipality in 1955 and 1956 to work as a mountain guide and ski instructor.
He was awarded honorary citizenship of Bardonecchia on 24 August 1955.
He was the greatest mountaineer of his time and his epic solo ascent of the
south-west pillar of the Petit Dru took place while he was in the village, as well as the first ski-mountaineering traverse of the entire Alpine chain, from east to west.
In the 1970s, Alberto Re revitalised the group of mountain guides in Bardonecchia and gave the profession an international dimension, accompanying clients to every corner of the world, including the 1985 ascent of an eight-thousand metre peak, Gasherbrum II.
