The concert ‘Palestrina, tra cielo e terra’ (Palestrina, between heaven and earth) intends to celebrate the great Roman composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594), on the occasion of the fifth centenary of his birth. Madrigals and motets among the most beautiful in the history of polyphony will outline both his sacred and profane production.
The performances by the Madrigal Ensemble of the Accademia del Santo Spirito, conducted by Luca Ronzitti, will be interspersed with pieces for harpsichord and lute, performed by Laura La Vecchia, composed by Palestrina himself and other musicians of his time who were influenced by the great Renaissance master.
The Royal Museums will be open to the public from 20.00 to 23.30 (last entrance at 22.45). The concert will take place at 9 p.m. in the Salone delle Guardie Svizzere (Swiss Guards Hall) of the Royal Palace; before and after the performance, the public will be able to admire the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, which is extraordinarily open in the evening
