La lunga ombra dello Chaberton

21 February 2025
Bardonecchia
Culture & Tradition

From the height of its 3131 metres, the 515th Mount Chaberton Battery, considered ‘Invulnerable’, was a thorn in the side of the French Army General Staff for almost four decades.
When put to the test on 21 June 1940, it highlighted the major flaws in its design, its organisation and the antiquity of a structure no longer able to compete on the changed battlefields.
The lecturers will retrace the historical period between the construction and its destruction, with the passing of the baton to the more modern works of the Alpine Wall, together with the economic repercussions in the Turin area of past times projected towards the present.
