Susa Svelata returns with a new event, a prelude to the Torneo Storico dei Borghi: Between Faith and Power, an evening walk through the historic centre, taking in the city’s hidden corners and unusual sights, to explore the link between Christian faith and political power in the Middle Ages.

There are three stops. After a welcome drink, the tour sets off from Adelaide Castle; at the Diocesan Archives, guided by the commentary of Andrea Zonato, participants will discover some intriguing details preserved amongst the documents; at the Civic Library, they will visit one of the frescoed rooms.

Along the way, two costumed figures accompany the group: a friar and a Benedictine monk, who recount the history, sometimes disagreeing and sometimes agreeing, depending on the topic. The tour begins with Countess Adelaide and the Arduin period, before following the thread that links Susa to religious figures who, through their wealth, left their mark on the town, and to movements that challenged that wealth by preaching poverty, right up to St Francis. This thread leads to the sacred art commissioned by bishops and nobles, where devotion is intertwined with the desire to be remembered.
