Three days of history and competition: a medieval weekend that kicks off on Friday evening with a thrilling display of rhythmic beats and choreography by the drummers of the Villages in Piazza San Giusto.
The atmosphere becomes even more exciting on Saturday with the Welcome Tour through the town’s streets, accompanied by characters who will take you back in time, and in the evening with the majestic historical procession through the town’s streets towards the Roman Arena; here, following the oath taken by the Capiborgo, a grand medieval spectacle is staged in honour of Countess Adelaide.
Sunday begins in the morning with the parade and the solemn blessing of the Palio in the Cathedral; in the afternoon, the grand finale sets the Roman Arena alight once more, where the six Villages compete for victory in thrilling traditional contests of archery, the Saracen joust and tug-of-war.
At the end of the contests, the winning Village claims and takes home the coveted Palio, the banner that marks the town’s triumph and glory for the entire year.
