Presentation of Sara D’Amario’s novel, with a discussion led by Franca Cassine, a journalist from *La Stampa*.
A GP, an abandoned newborn, a murder to solve and a series of disastrous yet hilarious romantic encounters. Turin and its surroundings provide the backdrop for a crime comedy that weaves together mystery, irony, romance and plot twists.
The protagonist is Cristina Garello, a 35-year-old GP: in her profession she always finds the right treatment, whilst in her private life she seems to invariably choose the wrong man. When she is left at the altar, all her certainties crumble. Determined to give love another go, she finds herself the centre of a series of improbable and comical blind dates. But fate has something much bigger in store for her.
The abandonment of a newborn baby in her surgery, the arrest of the child’s mother and the murder of a young dancer drag her into the thick of an investigation that will change her life forever. Helping her is Ercole Pistini, an elderly retired plumber with a mysterious past, whilst complicating matters is an icy Chief Inspector whose investigation Cristina hinders. There’s also a sexy, charming man destined to further confuse Cristina’s heart.
With her brilliant, cinematic prose, Sara D’Amario blends the light-heartedness of a romantic comedy with the pace of a crime thriller, bringing to life a protagonist who is authentic, witty and deeply human. A novel that promises to make you laugh, move you to tears and keep you on the edge of your seat right up to the very last page, launching a new crime series featuring a female detective.
