The gallery of the MAU - Museum of Urban Art is hosting Armed Men / Loved Men, a solo exhibition by the sculptor Carlo D’Oria.
On display are four sculptures and a drawing, which capture the core themes of the artist’s work in an essential and incisive manner. Armed Men / Loved Men opens up an ambiguity already embedded in the title: A(r)mati introduces a dual register between love and defence. This oscillation reflects a central tension in D’Oria’s work, which links the need for protection with the emotional fragility of the individual.
The A(r)mati represent one of the key elements of a broader experience that invites reflection on the nature of human relationships: dynamics that sometimes function and sometimes break down, suspended, mended, always in flux.
In this unstable equilibrium, lives and relationships take shape as a battlefield where no one is ever definitively defeated, nor truly victorious.
