Learn about the species present in Piedmont and how to protect them: meet researchers Elena Patriarca and Paolo Debernardi from the Torino Teriological Station.

They will talk about the biology and behavior of these special animals, which are fundamental for the environment and for humans. Thanks to their contribution to natural pest control—a colony can eat thousands of insects every night!—it is possible to reduce the use of chemical pesticides, thereby reducing environmental impact and health risks.

Chiroptera inspire science: their echolocation system has inspired sonar and radar, and the study of their immune system aids medical research. Furthermore, looking at the bigger picture, fruit bats play an essential role in spreading seeds and pollinating flowers in the rainforest, contributing to biodiversity and regeneration, benefiting many other plants such as mango, banana, and agave.

This is an opportunity not to be missed to get to know them better, not to fear them but to appreciate them as valuable allies for health and the environment.
