A beautiful hike in the Ceresole Reale valley, following ancient paths used by shepherds to bring their herds from the valley villages to the high-altitude pastures, and which are still in use today. A bucolic, lush mountain, with pleasant mid-altitude views and, of course, the chance to spot some of the animal species typical of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
We'll depart from Ceresole Reale (Turin) at 1,550 m above sea level and, along a pleasant forest trail, ascend through a luminous larch forest to the Pian Brengi plateau at almost 2,000 m above sea level. From here, we'll continue climbing, now on a steeper slope, to the mountain pastures above and the nice Colle Sià (2,270 m), once an important pass leading to the wild Loserai alpine valleys. The location is evocative for its views of the mid- and lower valley and the looming rocky foothills of Courmaon and Ciarforon. Return by the same route.
Elevation gain 750 meters on mostly good trail; some short sections in the second half of the route are steep and a little rocky. Hiking poles are useful.
Hiking gear, boots, a packed lunch, a windbreaker, water, sunglasses, and sunscreen are required. Bring plenty of water and a windjacket.
