The Strada delle Mele (Apple Road) is much more than just a cycle route: it offers a complete immersion in the heart of the Pinerolo area, amidst bucolic landscapes, outstanding farms and unexpected historical treasures.
A mosaic of 14 municipalities: what you’ll discover
The route winds its way through unique areas, each with a treasure to uncover:
- Pinerolo: the “City of Chivalry”, the ideal starting point and home to the station.
- Bibiana: famous for its small fruit crops and kiwis.
- Bricherasio: a journey back to the Middle Ages along the ancient road that cuts through the village, amidst stately homes and vineyards.
- Campiglione Fenile: where the plain becomes a garden, amidst historic farmhouses and neat rows of vines.
- Cavour: dominated by the Rocca, a nature reserve that rises above the plain like an island of rock.
- Cumiana: a charming ancient village, surrounded by stately villas and lush woods.
- Frossasco: practically an open-air museum.
- Garzigliana: a little rural gem where time seems to have stood still, perfect for a leisurely stop.
- Luserna San Giovanni: the gateway to the Waldensian valleys.
- Lusernetta: a cosy village home to the splendid Chapel of San Bernardino with its frescoes.
- Macello: famous for its perfectly preserved medieval castle, which dominates the landscape.
- Osasco: where the Pinerolo countryside offers picture-postcard views and a genuine rural welcome.
- Prarostino: the challenge of the tour! A demanding climb takes you to the Faro della Libertà, with a breathtaking view.
- San Secondo di Pinerolo: home to the majestic Miradolo Castle, a venue for art exhibitions and concerts in the park.
The route alternates between flat stretches through orchards and moments of pure adrenaline, such as the climb to the Faro di Prarostino.
