For the 150th anniversary of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) in Ivrea, an evening event was held in the splendid setting of the Giacosa Theatre with François Cazzanell , a leading figure in the world of mountaineering, mountain guide, rescuer and internationally renowned mountaineer.
The Matterhorn was his school of life, climbing it more than 100 times via 16 different routes. It was there that he formed his style and developed an approach to mountaineering that always seeks to combine speed, safety and respect.
For Francois, speed is not a goal, it is a means: it exposes you to fewer dangers and allows you to read the mountain more fluidly.
He has participated in more than twenty expeditions outside Europe, climbing in the Himalayas, Karakorum, Antarctica, Alaska, California, Patagonia, Africa and China. He climbed Everest and Lhotse, followed by Manaslu and Nanga Parbat, setting a speed record for both ascents and descents without oxygen.
