Contrasto borrows some of the characters from the novel to analyse their psychology, relationships and contradictions.
The six characters - Athos, Porthos, Aramis, D'Artagnan, Cardinal Richelieu and the servant Unopertutti - are the pretext for telling a pop and contemporary story about good and evil, inclusion and a sense of belonging. Like children discovering the cruellest side of human nature, the characters chase each other in an almost gratuitous sequence of petty slights, acts of revenge and outright vengeance that end up disrupting Dumas' original narrative
