We are in Artemisia Gentileschi's painting studio and she is busy doing what she loved most in life: painting.
She talks to us and tells us about herself, about her life starting from her childhood. The loss of her mother, the life of a child in 17th-century Rome: Artemisia immediately understands how difficult it is to live in a man's world. Yet her father Orazio immediately introduces her to a profession in which women were not even considered, painting: she stands out from her brothers and has a passion that keeps her drawing a face for hours on end until she captures its likeness.
Thanks to her father, she meets the greatest painters, even Caravaggio. Her father entrusts her to his friend, Agostino Tassi, so that she can learn and improve her painting skills. But one day, Tassi abuses her. This trauma and the ensuing trial, sought by her father, have a profound impact on Artemisia's artistic life. Everything that followed and everything she did to free herself and establish herself in a world fiercely dominated by men made her a figurehead for the fight for women's rights.
She will tell us everything, descending into the abyss of the violence she suffered and ascending to the paradise of Art. And we witness the wonder of a great painter who shines with her victory over a world ruled by men.
