The church dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, commonly known as ‘the Sanctuary’, was built between 1740 and 1743, thanks to donations collected and with the help of the local population, by Pastor Eusebio, to whom the Virgin Mary had appeared. Built on the site of a votive pillar, it was then enlarged between 1747 and 1749.
In 1817, the Observant Friars Minor settled in the adjacent premises and ran the sanctuary until 1866. At the base of the staircase, in a niche, there is a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Every year in September, the feast of the Sanctuary is celebrated.
From an aesthetic point of view, it has a unique construction and a certain stylistic value, a sign that whoever designed it had skill and knowledge of artistic canons, but the name of the designer is unknown.
