An initiative that combines the great outdoors with an experience of nature full of poetry and charm.
The walk begins in the late afternoon, when temperatures drop and walking in the mountains – mostly through the woods – becomes less tiring. From the square in the hamlet of Tornetti, it takes about an hour to reach Baite Cima, where the old stone buildings once used for summer pasturing still stand: the view opens out majestically over the Vallone dei Tornetti and the Catena del Drago, the Moross crags.
Here, a small group of volunteers will be preparing a steaming plate of spaghetti and a simple evening meal to be enjoyed amongst the meadows, where, as is often the case on a mountain outing, food, memories and conversation are shared.
Meanwhile, the amateur astronomers from the E.E. Barnard group will begin setting up their equipment to start observing the night sky: the chosen evening is of great astronomical significance as it coincides with a total solar eclipse.
Suitable footwear and clothing are required, as well as a torch for the return journey in the dark.
You can reach the destination either by joining the guided hike organised by the Viù CAI Sub-section, by bike via the municipal road through the hamlet of Balma and the dirt track leading on to Pianàs, or by car.
