Peter and the Wolf is one of the most successful musical compositions for children: it is a true fairy tale, with the text recited by Prokofiev himself, in which each character is represented by a musical theme and an instrument, creating sound images that are more incisive than the words themselves.

The two suites from Grieg's Peer Gynt followed the success of Henrik Ibsen's play of the same name (1874). Grieg's compositions stand out for their ingenious freshness and extraordinary expressive effectiveness, which are no less than the success that accompanied the play.
