Hanno rubato un tram... una serata sul tram di Bologna

20 March 2025
Torino
Culture & Tradition

The historic tramway 201, from Bologna, will take you around the Turin city centre illuminated by the evening lights.

The trams of Bologna were the protagonists of a 1954 film starring and director Aldo Fabrizi: we will tell you how the conductor Cesare Mancini managed to steal a tramway, also through the images and beautiful posters from the film.

We will travel on board the progenitor of a series of 29 trams built to renew Bologna's tram fleet. The 201 ended its Bologna career in 1963, when the network was closed, and together with three other cars (210, 218 and 228) was sold to Stefer of Rome, which repainted it in blue-white and made it one-way: it would serve the lines to Cinecittà and Capannelle.

By 1980, the two lines closed and the 201 was shelved, first in the Alberone depot and then at Grottarossa. Despite the deterioration caused by the weather, the ATTS bought it and restored it: in 2011 it was back in service in Turin, externally restored to its 1930s appearance, while the interior was in ‘Roman’ condition.

On board, our volunteers will tell you the story of the recovery of this unique vehicle, rescued and put back into service after years of neglect.
