Davide S. Sapienza’s latest book, Geopoeta, nelle terre della percezione (Meltemi, 2025), is an expanded and rewritten version of his previous work Il Geopoeta: a book that interweaves walking, writing, landscape, and perception.
The Earth is not merely described, but listened to and journeyed through, as a form of writing to be read with the body and the senses.
Sapienza’s geopoetic practice stems precisely from walking through territories—especially mountainous ones—and from connecting geography with human experience. It is not so much a theory as it is an experience: walking, observing, listening, and reading both texts and landscapes, allowing the place to generate thought and transformation.
Since 2005, Sapienza has been developing this practice through literary walks and collective journeys.
In this sense, geopoetics becomes a way to reconnect with the Earth and, at the same time, with ourselves: the outer landscape becomes a mirror of the inner landscape.
