Torcetti biscuits probably originated in Lanzo, where the well-known grissini were also 'invented'.
Production of these biscuits quickly spread over most of the Lanzo Valley and the Canavese area.
Torcetti biscuits look like sweet grissini and their slightly caramelised outer coating twisted to form a circle makes them irresistible.
They were made from the same mixture as bread then tossed in sugar or honey and cooked at the opening of the communal ovens in villages just before baking the bread.
They were a rare and special treat for children.
