In the hamlet of Pessione di Chieri stands a charming building called Castelguelfo. Surrounded by high walls and a few farmhouses, it has a romantic appearance thanks to the restoration work carried out in the late 19th century.
The original building was used to store provisions in a safe place and to offer refuge during the passage of enemy armies.
Its general appearance suggests that it dates back to the 14th century, although the earliest record of it is from 1029, when Bianca of Turin donated it to the monks of San Salvà di Santena.
Its transformation into a noble residence dates back to the 17th-18th centuries.
In the 19th century, the castle belonged to the Baudi family, a family from Alessandria with residences in Vigone and Turin. It was the Baudi di Vesme family who modified the interior and part of the exterior of the building, refurbishing it to turn it into a comfortable country villa.
The building took on the picturesque and refined appearance that it still retains today, with an English-style park and an access driveway leading from an entrance that is no longer in use.
Today, Castelguelfo Castle is open for guided tours by appointment.
The location can be hired for events, weddings, ceremonies, corporate meetings, exhibitions and photo shoots.
