The Val Troncea National Park has opened an area dedicated to local history and culture in a building which dates back to the mid-17th century.
The Escartons were a federal and autonomous territorial area where the administrative and tax affairs of the territory were managed independently from 1343 to 1713, thanks to signing the Freedom Charter.
Casa degli Escartons houses: - the Wardrobe: the precious piece of furniture with fine finishes, handmade by the Pragelatese sculptor Guido Ronchail, whose seven keys symbolically represent the agreement between the valley's six communities; - the ‘Cav. Remigio Bermond’ historical archive: the room is dedicated to Cavaliere Remigio Bermond, a well-known poet from the Chisone valley. Thanks to the sensitivity of the family who donated it, it is possible to consult the personal archive of the Pragelatese scholar preserved in the same room. A biography and a panel illustrate his life and works; - the exhibition hall: hosts temporary exhibitions and thematic meetings. A video station shows films on the reality of the Escartons; The library and reading room: the Val Troncea Natural Park's scientific and historical library consists of no less than 3,000 volumes. By appointment, it is possible to consult and borrow books from the shelves.
