The opening concert of the Filarmonica TRT’s 2025-26 season I Concerti, offers the audience the opportunity to hear two special guest artists perform with the orchestra for the very first time.
Taking the podium for the first time with the Filarmonica TRT will be Maestro Umberto Clerici, whom the Torino audience admired until 2014 in his role as the orchestra’s principal cellist. After holding the same position with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, he began a brilliant career as a conductor, becoming the Principal Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2023.
In the spirit of experimentation and exploration of contemporary musical languages, the program features the Italian premiere of Masquerade (2013) by Anna Clyne: the English composer draws inspiration from the promenade concerts of the 18th century that were held in the gardens of London.
Next on the program is the Concert for Horn and Orchestra in B-flat major, Op. 91 by Reinhold Glière, a brilliant and virtuosic work, composed in 1951, that showcases the dynamic possibilities and expressive versatility of the horn. This will be a special occasion to admire the young and talented Maria Elisa Aricò, principal horn of the Filarmonica TRT since 2023, performing for the first time at the Teatro Regio as a soloist.
The evening concludes with the monumental Symphony No. 10 in E minor, Op. 93 by Dmitri Shostakovich. The spirit of the composition is rooted in the death of Joseph Stalin on March 5th, 1953. The Tenth is thus the first symphony of the post-Stalin era, finally giving voice to the composer’s denunciation of the dictator, while also expressing hope for the spiritual and artistic rebirth of a nation freed from the yoke and terror of a bloody and oppressive regime.
