The new edition of Cinema in Verticale opens in Condove. The programme, dedicated to cinema, culture and mountain sports, was founded in 1999 as a preview event of the Valsusa Filmfest.
The opening event is an evening of strong environmental and cultural significance, dedicated to the Vallone delle Cime Bianche, an unspoilt area in the upper Ayas Valley, in Valle d'Aosta, part of the Special Protection Area Glacial Environments of the Monte Rosa Group and of the European Natura 2000 network.
It is a project focused on the protection and enhancement of the natural and cultural landscape, telling the story of a territory that has reached us in a state of extraordinary integrity despite human pressure, but is now threatened by proposed cableway links between ski resorts. If implemented, such projects would irreversibly compromise an ecosystem of exceptional environmental, geological and landscape value.
Through images, audiovisual materials and first-hand testimonies, the evening aims to offer the public an in-depth and informed perspective on a place that has become a symbol of contemporary Alpine conservation, at the centre of a long and complex campaign involving associations, citizens, photographers and environmental organisations, also at institutional and international level.
Gigi Giuliano will be in conversation with Annamaria Gremmo, Francesco Sisti and Marco Soggetto, authors of an awareness-raising and outreach project launched in 2017 and based on the use of photography as a tool of visual advocacy.
