‘Pinerolo with your head held high’ is a circular walk in the heart of Pinerolo, starting and ending at the Cathedral of San Donato, designed to help you rediscover the town and its night-time landscape through history, nature and astronomy. The route will take in some of the town’s most iconic landmarks, from the Terrazze degli Acaja and the sculpture of the Lupo di Davide Rivalt to the Piazzale di San Maurizio, with its churches and viewpoint, right up to the meadows on the outskirts of the town centre.
During the walk, we’ll talk about the starry sky above the Cathedral, the symbolic significance of darkness and the ‘lost sky’, the effects of light pollution on people, wildlife and plants, and the story of the Man in the Iron Mask, drawing an evocative parallel between his confinement in darkness and the ‘mask of light’ that today prevents us from seeing the stars.
With our eyes turned towards the autumn sky, we will finally try to spot the constellation of Pegasus and discover how we can combat light pollution.
An experience to help you re-acclimatise to the dark, listen to the sounds of the night, breathe in the scents of the meadows and look up at the sky again with fresh eyes.
A circular route of approximately 4 km with an elevation gain of around 100 m
