This festival brings together groups from the Alps and Apennines, where the tradition of spontaneous singing is a sort of common language that unites the populations of the mountain valleys.
La Viuleta is an unmissable event for those who love spontaneous singing, thanks in part to the work of ethnomusicologist Flavio Giacchero, who has brought scholars and experts from all over Italy to Viù, building up a rich archive of materials documenting six years of work in this field.
The event will begin on the afternoon of Saturday 13th with the presentation of the participating groups, coming from the Emilian Apennines, the Oltre Po Pavese, the Bergamo area and the Piedmontese Alps. This will be followed by a gathering of all the groups, who will then spread out across the village to create the magical atmosphere of the Via dei canti, performing their repertoires and sounds to the public until late in the evening. The public will also be able to perform in areas dedicated to free singing. Finally, there will be a closing event at the Polivalente.
On Sunday 14th, the singing will continue with the two groups from Emilia, who will enliven the morning with an aperitif accompanied by Emilian songs in the town centre.
