Although not a seaside town, Carmagnola boasts an ancient and deep-rooted connection with maritime culture. For centuries, its artisan workshops have produced hemp ropes and sails, exported to the main Italian and European shipyards.
This tradition is the inspiration for the exhibition, the first national exhibition of marine paintings, an event that combines art and memory, beauty and identity.
The exhibition brings together works by Italian artists who have been dedicated to depicting the sea through painting for years: ports, ships, horizons and marine visions become instruments of cultural narration and aesthetic reflection.
The initiative is hosted by the Town Hall, inside the historic city Castle, a further symbol of a city attentive to its history and cultural evolution. The Civic Naval Museum and the Ecomuseum of Hemp Processing Culture, both located in Carmagnola, offer the opportunity to further explore these links between territory and maritime life, between a productive past and a cultural present.
The exhibition opens the 2025 Month of Culture, confirming Carmagnola's vocation as a space for dialogue, beauty and participation.
