Carmagnola

Carmagnola

About thirty kilometres from Torino, Carmagnola developed for a long time under the aegis of the Marquises of Saluzzo and the Savoy family, until it became a very important agricultural centre thanks to the cultivation of pepper - celebrated every year by the National Pepper Fair - and the transformation of hemp, to which an ecomuseum is dedicated, preserving and transmitting the skilful culture of its transformation and the manufacture of ropes. The historic centre is also interesting, with its ancient 13th-century castle, now the town hall, the 15th-century church of Sant'Agostino and majestic buildings such as Palazzo Lomellini, Casa Cavassa and Casa delle Meridiane. The civic museum of natural history, the synagogue and the civic naval museum complete the cultural offer.
