Vegetables

The Basket of typical products of the Metropolitan City of Torino boasts delicious vegetables, some of which are also included in the Slow Food presidium.

There are nine vegetables included in the basket: 

• Santena asparagus: the shoots of this vegetable are eaten. With a delicate flavour, its organoleptic properties depend largely on the type of soil in which it is grown
  
  
• Montalto Dora savoy cabbage: In Montalto, the loose, cool soil favours the production of a variety botanically recognised as “Sabauda” and known for its excellent quality and flavour
  
  

• Moncalieri cauliflower: with an excellent flavour and typical crunchiness, this vegetable is also appreciated for its particular appearance. The cultivation of this variety of cauliflower was introduced to Piedmont by the horticulturists of the House of Savoy
  
  

• Ciapinabò di Carignano: used in various fields, from dietetics to pharmaceuticals, from bioethanol production to soil fertilisation and, of course, in many culinary preparations
  
  
• Piatlina bionda onion from Andezeno: with its tender, sweet flesh, it is the star of a popular festival
  
  
• Piattella Canavesana white bean from Cortereggio: a climbing bean with flat grains
  
  
• Mountain potatoes from the province of Torino: grown in the mountainous areas of the province of Turin alongside recently introduced Italian and foreign varieties
  
  
• Carmagnola peppers: adopted by Slow Food as one of the Presidia of the province of Turin, there are four types and a renowned fair
  
  
• Long radishes from Torino: created by crossing two different varieties of radish
