There are four parks in the Cottian Alps, with a total surface area of over 18,000 hectares, covering a vast territory that rises from the plains up to the 3,280 m above sea level of Punta Rognosa di Sestriere in the Val Troncea Park (or 3,538 m above sea level, if we consider the altitude reached by the peak of Rocciamelone, located in the Rocciamelone SCI, also managed by the Park Authority).
One water park (Avigliana Lakes Nature Park) and three mountain nature parks (Val Troncea Nature Park, Orsiera Rocciavré Nature Park and Gran Bosco di Salbertrand Nature Park)
The Avigliana Lakes Nature Park is mainly concerned with the protection of the Mareschi wetlands, the restoration of the hydrobiological conditions of the lakes, eliminating pollution, and the enhancement of the area, creating a close symbiosis with the town of Avigliana.
The Val Troncea, Orsiera Rocciavré and Gran Bosco di Salbertrand nature parks protect typical alpine environments, protecting not only nature but also the history of their territory traversed by important works such as military roads and scattered with historical and cultural assets from places famous for ancient battles to mines, iceboxes and points of interest steeped in centuries of human history.
