TORINO IS THE EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF SMART TOURISM 2025

Torino has been awarded the title of "European Capital of Smart Tourism 2025” by the European Commission. This recognition highlights the city's success in combining sustainability, digital innovation, cultural heritage, and accessibility in its tourism strategy. Among 21 cities from 10 countries, Torino stood out for its urban regeneration projects, environmental initiatives, and inclusive tourism solutions. This award will boost Torino’s global visibility and promote collaborations across Europe, reinforcing its role as a leader in smart and sustainable tourism.

 

European Capital of Smart Tourism 2025: what is it and how is it chosen?

 

The European Commission grants this title to cities that demonstrate innovation in tourism, focusing on accessibility, digitalization, sustainability, cultural heritage, and creativity.

Torino was selected over seven finalist cities from 21 candidates across 10 countries. In addition, the title of "European Green Pioneer of Smart Tourism" was awarded to Benidorm, Spain. Torino’s application was submitted by the municipality of Città di Torino and Turismo Torino e Provincia, Convention & Visitors Bureau, in collaboration with local institutions and partners.

Torino excels at blending tradition with modernity, using digital technologies and creative projects to enhance its historical, cultural, and natural assets. The award recognizes the city's commitment to sustainability, heritage preservation, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, advanced mobility solutions, and accessible tourism. 

 

Key Strengths of Torino’s Tourism Strategy

  • Authenticity and identity: Preserving and promoting cultural and natural heritage.
  • Quality of life and inclusion: Ensuring a welcoming environment for both residents and visitors.
  • Sustainable innovation: Transforming industrial sites into cultural and green spaces, driving research, technology, and the arts. Torino is among 100 European cities aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030 and signed its first Green Deal in October 2024.

With this recognition, Torino will receive support for international promotion and collaboration with other European cities, strengthening its position as a model for smart and sustainable tourism in 2025.
