While the city and hills slowly turn the warm, golden colours of autumn, the streets, squares and venues of Torino come alive with a series of unmissable events. Sport, art and culture for a Torino truly of all and for all.
A city to savour
The tastiest event of the year arrives in the city at the end of September: from 26 to 30 September, it is time for Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024, an eagerly awaited and beloved international event conceived by Slow Food.
The fulcrum of the kermesse is Parco Dora, which will host events and activities for all tastes, 5 days-long: workshops, tastings, conferences in addition to the fragrant and international market of 600 producers from all over the world.
Many activities are proposed for young visitors, families and schools. Giovani genitori (Young Parents ) will be there and waiting for you in the Baby Pit Stop area (vegetable garden side, Mortara entrance), for family stops among soft pillows, snacks, games and animated readings dedicated to good, clean and fair food.
What a masterpiece of a day!
Autumn also offers young and old alike many opportunities to discover Torino's fascinating artistic and cultural heritage in an original and... affordable way.
It starts on 28 and 29 September with the European Heritage Days, which this year have the theme ‘Heritage on the Way’.
Special initiatives and guided tours are scheduled for the weekend, with super-special openings in state museums on Saturday evening, with symbolic entry at 1 euro.
An example? The itinerant narration on Saturday 28 at 9 pm in the complex of the wonderful Precettoria di Sant'Antonio di Ranverso in Buttigliera Alta (TO).
And for older children and youngsters who want to get involved, there is the Young European Heritage Makers Competition, a competition that makes them the protagonists of their own cultural growth, through their video contributions or digital shots.
Museums and castles
F@MU Families at the Museum Day is back in October, the initiative that offers exciting kids-friendly activities in cultural venues.
In Torino, for example, the MAO Museum of Oriental Art is organising ‘Naturalmente Il MAO’ (Naturally the MAO) on 13 October, a visit with a focus on the nature depicted in the museum's works + a green lab to create a miniature garden on eco-paper plates and recycled material (for information on participating venues: famigliealmuseo.com ).
Nature, beauty and culture are also in the spotlight over the weekend of 14 and 15 October, with the thirteenth edition of the FAI Autumn Days and their programme of special visits to fascinating places.
The programme is always very rich: among the proposals in the Torino area, the kids day to discover the Masino Castle and Park, in Caravino, with its 18th-century labyrinth: among the largest in Italy, it is a real puzzle of perfectly shaped hedges where you can venture through more than a thousand plants.
Art Week, also for children
November in Turin is Art Week time: the main contemporary art fair in Italy, Artissima - The Era of Daydreaming (1-3 November), returns to the Oval Lingotto with its Junior version for children from 6 to 11 years old with lots of activities in the name of creativity and imagination, to daydream.
During the weekend, a trip to Paratissima, the super-pop art exhibition, is not to be missed: here families will find workshops and Kids guided tours that accompany the little ones in their discovery of art.
The Mole and the Champions
2024 for Italy is tennis-mania, and what better way to celebrate such a superlative year for the Italian racquets than with a prestigious international-level competition? The Nitto ATP FINALS, ‘Where Champions Become Champion’, one of the most important tennis tournaments of all, which sees the eight best tennis players in the world ranking compete for the title, are back again this year in the autumn of Turin.
From 10 to 17 November, the place-to-be is the Inalpi Arena, which, in addition to hosting the tournament court, has been enhanced by an entire site with exciting new features for an all-round experience.
The pavilions of the Fan Village host a food court, a LED screen to follow the eagerly awaited matches and many sports and entertainment activities for the whole family. Fans of racquet sports will find ‘balls’ for their teeth thanks to pickleball, beach tennis, padel and a dedicated eSports area.
Also in November, in anticipation of the big event, many initiatives are planned for the youngest: on the 8th at PalaRuffini there is the ‘Racquets in Class’ party; from the 10th there is the Junior Next Gen National Masters (Under 10, 12 and 14) and the Road to Torino National Masters (Under 11 and 13).
From September to November, with Tennis in Città, everyone will be able to feel like a champion for a day by experiencing the thrill of stepping onto a tennis court and training in Turin's main squares. The complete calendar by clicking here.
From Halloween to... Christmas!
The end of October is the time of the most frightening and beloved festival for boys and girls, and for Halloween in the city and its surroundings there are many appointments based on tricks, treats and spooks! Among these, not to be missed: in the ‘monstrous village’ of Vidracco (TO) on Sunday 27 October, an itinerant family trail along the lake will be staged, starting from the Mill, with buffets, shows and surprises... scary! At the Castle of Miradolo on Thursday 31 October, Halloween at the Castle: there is a memory that hovers within the walls, telling of knights and countesses who were painters, top hats, lace and silk skirts, to be sought among twirls, jumps and somersaults, in the shade of lanterns and candles.
The anticipation of Christmas in Torino is lived and lit up day after day with the now traditional and always marvellous Luci d'Artista (27th edition!) that return to illuminate the streets and squares of Turin.
Two new light installations signed by artists Luigi Ontani and Andreas Angelidakis, with their respective lights Scia'Mano and VR Man: will they be the most instagrammed? The dates to mark in your calendar are 25 October - 12 January 2025!
